Capezzana - Carmignano 'Villa di Capezzana'
A full-bodied Tuscan red from the Contini Bonacossi family's Capezzana estate, just north-west of Florence.
75cl | 14.5% ABV | Carmignano, Tuscany, Italy | Sangiovese & Cabernet
Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red with youthful highlights. The nose shows almonds, violets and oranges, intertwined with coffee and vanilla. The wine is full-bodied with well-balanced acidity. Rounded Sangiovese tannins are lifted by the cassis concentration of the Cabernet on a long, concentrated finish.
The Producer
The Capezzana estate sits 24 kilometres north-west of Florence and is owned by the Contini Bonacossi family. Benedetta Contini Bonacossi is the winemaker, and Francesco Bernabei is the consultant winemaker. The estate's wines and olive oil are known for their elegance.
The Vineyards
The vineyards have been converted to organic production. They face south, south-east and south-west at 150–200 metres, on schistous clay with limestone.
In the Winery
After 20 days of fermentation in stainless steel, the wine goes through malolactic fermentation in French oak. 70% is aged for 12 months in tonneaux and 30% for 16 months in larger barrels. The blend then ages for a further 12 months in bottle before release.
Pair it with: a Dry-Aged Sirloin with a spoonful of XO Sauce.
