Chateau Macquin Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion
A full-bodied right-bank Bordeaux from Château Macquin, a family estate just north of Saint-Émilion.
75cl | 14.5% ABV | Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France | Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red, with intense aromas of ripe red fruits and spicy notes of cinnamon and pepper. The palate is full-bodied, with concentrated flavours of cassis, raspberry and tobacco and a balanced, lifted acidity. Silky tannins lead to a long, persistent finish.
The Producer
The château is run by Denis and Christine Corre-Macquin. Denis's grandfather, François-Albert Macquin, was the first to replant vines in Saint-Émilion after the phylloxera outbreak. The couple own 27 hectares across Saint-Émilion and Pomerol and are involved in every vineyard and winemaking decision.
The Vineyards
Saint-Georges is the smallest Bordeaux appellation. At up to 89 metres, it has one of the best elevations on the right bank, which gives its wines freshness and concentration. The south-facing vines are 15 to 60 years old and grow on clay and limestone. They're farmed sustainably, without herbicides or chemical fertilisers.
In the Winery
After three weeks of maceration, the wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel. A third is aged in French oak for a year, adding structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Pair it with: a Dry-Aged Sirloin or a sharing 1kg Tomahawk.
